Cheap REAL UPC numbers out there??
I have been selling on Amazon for several years now. The last 3 years seems like Amazon is trying to get rid of us 3rd party sellers. Most of the stuff I sell is movie prop replicas and stickers I make myself. I bought inexpensive UPC's a few years ago but Amazon is not letting me use those anymore. Now they want me to buy the GS1 UPC's and they are REALLY expensive. Totally pricing me out of being able to sell anything. Seven years ago I had over 800 listings and since they have started changing policies, requiring updates, this UPC thing, and bots removing items because it violates some weird algorithm, I am now down to a few hundred. I cant list anything because I don't have a "real" UPC.. Anyone able to help with this???? How do we work around this? Or do I just forget about selling on Amazon?

Without a GS1 number the only way you can do anything is try and ask for an exemption.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have never applied so I don't know the process for that.

It would be a waste of money. There are a number of sellers that WERE in Brand Registry and have been removed from BR because they had used the cheap 'aftermarket' numbers. They don;t work anymore. Anyone with them that says they are working just hasn't been caught YET!

"Expensive" is a relative term; but GS1 is the ONLY source for legit UPCs that Amazon will accept.
The only alternative is to apply for a GTIN exemption; which seems tailor made for sellers such as yourself (but I have no experience with)

Hello @Seller_lmZz3Rt6Bmn7V,
I'm sorry for any difficulties this creates however at this time Amazon only accepts UPCs that are part of the GS1 database as indicated on the Valid UPCs help page. You may be eligible for a GTIN exemption, but that is only in specific cases as mentioned by other Sellers. The reason for this policy is to ensure that listings are create for products accurately and to protect Brands UPCs from being misused. Thank you for your understanding.
