GENERIC branded listing on amazon to avoid brand gating,to block other sellers and sell counterfreits???

What is the issue with this GENERIC listing policy?

Sellers create GENERIC branded listings so they can block other sellers to list under. At the end, many sellers create listing of the exact same item.

95% of the GENERIC branded listings are counterfeit items like below;

5% of the GENERIC branded listings are made to avoid brand gating like the ones below;

B0BFBHZTPR

B0B8HFBJMC

All those asins/sellers violate Amazon policies. Does Amazon want seller to violate their policies so they can have excuse to hold their funds?

Why Amazon creates this mess ? Amazon already knows that this a policy which is very open to manipulation.

What will happen with this?

Unfortunately you are right.

A generic listing is not allowed to show or mention or sell a brand. Hopefully the AI will be programmed soon to take down these listings.

I am running into issues with this constantly also. And Amazon Seller "Support" refuses to correct the listings even when the title and description properly reflects the Brand Name. They do not care if Amazon.com information is the best, most correct, well-presented information and photos available. It's extremely disappointing.

I don't understand

If a listing is generic anyone can sell it without permission, how can they block anyone?

I am facing a similar issue. Amazon blocked the genuine products that I used to sell and forced me to receive back all the FBA inventory and pay more than 1k in return fees which messed up my store. For the last 6 months, my sales lowered by 80%. While they let people sell NOT genuine products under other brand names.

Amazon should care more about the real professional sellers and block all sellers who sell imitations and violate the brands and trademarks etc.

They created this. They gate and regate good and honest sellers on brands they've been selling for years based on absolutely nothing. While newer sellers are ok and wide open on those brands, and the chinese run rampant changing brand names on established listings by abusing brand registry.

And then they come up with this generics policy which doesnt even make sense and allows people to monopolize listings. "Generic" so no one else can list it? Makes absolutely no sense. If a product was truly generic, anyone should be allowed to list it.

So of course people are going to abuse this. Considering how much trouble and stress Amazon puts its sellers through, I'm always happy to see people breaking the rules successfully (as long as it doesnt hurt customers) even if I get no benefit from it myself (I'm too chickensh*t to try it).

It's in their best interest anyway. That way they can let it build up, then suspend tons of sellers and hold their funds, and their inventory. It's Amazon's favorite thing to do.

I just hope that when the hammer comes down, it comes down on the people that CREATED these listings ONLY. Or the people that actually changed the brands ONLY. Not the innocent sellers caught in the crossfire that also ended up under those listings. But knowing amazon, it probably wont happen that way.

This is happening a lot now. We have many ASINS which we work direct with the brand and suddenly other sellers are bypassing the legit listing process and either using their garbage "brand name" or "generic".

Amazon blocks any way to fix this. If you try and merge they say sorry different brand names. If you report it, nothing happens.

Amazon really needs to get this figured out on their end internally and not rely on sellers to police their platofrm and do their work.
